Preceded by the Jim Pattison Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Building Technologies and Renewable Energy Conservation, this project endeavors to live up to that legacy. Designed by members of the same core group, the Okanagan College Penticton Welding building is certified LEED Gold, an ambitious achievement for a project of this typology. Aside from the extent of energy usage inherent in the activity, welding requires good ventilation in order to maintain air quality. Relying once again on passive systems vs. active, the building promises to be one of the most sustainable of its kind.
